Rare away shirt with classic Crunchips sponsor as worn when the Red Devils stormed to the 2. Bundesliga title under Otto Rehhagel, finishing up on 68 points, ten ahead of second-placed Wolfsburg. Rehhagel’s men would record several great victories during this campaign, including high scoring games against Lübeck and Oldenburg, along with a ridiculous 7-6 victory against SV Meppen, the most goals in any game in 2. Bundesliga history. Top scorer for FCK would be Czech striker Pavel Kuka on 14 goals, with Jürgen Rische and Olaf Marschall not far behind. Amazingly, in the 1997-98 campaign Kaiserslautern would win the Bundesliga, a feat that remains the only time to date that a newly-promoted team has won the Bundesliga
