They reached the final with successive 1-0 victories over Paraguay, USA and surprise package South-Korea. Germany went into the final missing Michael Ballack, who had scored two crucial goals in the two previous rounds, after he picked up a suspension in the semi-final. It wasn't to be for Germany as they were put to the sword by Brazil's Ronaldo who found the net with two well taken first half goals
