Away shirt as worn when Chelsea finished 3rd in the Premier League under manager Gianluca Vialli, winning the European Super Cup along the way with an impressive victory over Real Madrid. The season began with the high-profile signings of World Cup winner Marcel Desailly from AC Milan and Pierluigi Casiraghi from Lazio, the latter having his career and season cruelly cut short by a knee injury after just ten appearances. However, fortunately for the Blues, his compatriot Gianfranco Zola had arguably the best campaign of his career spearheading their title challenge with 15 goals in all competitions. A slow start to the season comprising of just two points out of a possible nine ultimately proving costly to the Blues title credentials that year
