Notes - Away shirt as worn in the side’s first season back in the First Division after relegation from the Premier League in the previous season. Colin Todd looked to guide the Trotters to an immediate Premier League return but would have to settle for a play-off spot as Bolton could only manage a 6th place finish. Bolton would face Ipswich Town in the Semi-Final of the Play-Offs with the Trotters booking a place at Wembley on away goals after the sides were level at 4-4 on aggregate after the two legs. Bolton would face Watford in the Final, but it would be a step too far for Todd’s men, with Watford triumphing 2-0 thanks to goals from Nicholas Wright and Allan Smart
